Yin yoga is a slow yoga practise where the asanas are held for a period of time to allow the tissues deep within the body to stretch and lengthen safely. For this reason the moon is directly linked to the cool, slow practise of yin yoga and perfectly complements the stronger, warmer practise of hatha yoga. There is a also a specific flow of yoga poses called a 'moon salutation' or 'chandra namaskar' in Sanskrit which I like to perform during the week of a full moon. This flow is different to the more linear sun salutation flow (surya namaskar) which builds heat. It is a slower, cooler practise incorporating poses such as triangle pose, pyramid pose and garland pose.
